Maori Culture

It wasn't the westerners that discovered New Zealand first, but the Maori people. Much like the aborigines in Australia, there is lots of really interesting culture to immerse yourself in. You can visit a replica of a Maori village and experience what it would have been like before the Brits arrived. Then why not try their food which is cooked in an oven in the ground. The war dances and concerts are amazing to watch and you'll get to see a 'haka' first hand!

If you want to understand more about the Maori people then visit the National Museum in Wellington where a whole floor is dedicated to this. Have a look at their website at www.tepapa.govt.nz .
